So the funkified cell phone that you see here is none other than the Nokia 5220, or the new XpressMusic kid on the block. It's a cheaper alternative to the Nokia 5320 XpressMusic but still manages to maintain some street cred.

Nokia 5220 XpressMusic: Cheaper Yet Bigger Battery. Huh?

Nokia 5220 XpressMusic Phone

The first thing that I found interesting in comparison with the 5320 was the 1020 mAh lithium ion battery that they snuck into the 5220. That's good enough for 5 hours of talk time, and makes me wonder just who managed to leave that part out. The 5320 has a meager 3 hour talk time on GSM. (the music playback time is the same for both phones at up to 24 hours)

Most of the features are pretty standard to the XpressMusic series, ie Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, dedicated music keys (but note NO dedicated gaming keys), dedicated audio chip, 3.5mm connector, expandable microSD memory.

Of course, there's always one "X Factor" so to speak, that separates the men from the boys, and the 5220s from the 5300s and 5700s. And in this case, that is the:

"Rhythmic lights flashing in the beat of the music." (from Nokia data sheet)

Rounding out the 5220 XpressMusic are two basic features of note: 1) it's triband, and 2) it's a Series 40 phone.

Expect the 5220 to cost a sweet 160 euros ($251 US dollars) when it starts shipping sometime in Q3 2008.
