The Nokia E71 has won a top honor in WIRED Magazine’s test issue - the sleekly designed smartphone, packed with messaging, navigation and other great multimedia features, nabbed the ‘Test Best Cell Phone’ title in the November issue, on newsstands now. Additionally, the Nokia N82 was awarded the ‘Test Best Camera Phone’ accolade.

The Nokia E71 scored nine out of 10, with WIRED’s editors commenting, “The E71 is stocked with enough apps and goodies to keep even the most overworked road warrior on the ball, but it didn’t feel too “business.” That’s mostly due to the fact that the E71 has two separate customizable home screens. One is designed to house all of your work apps like Excel andPowerPoint while the other is geared more towards entertainment with programs for audio, video and gaming. Switching between the two is dead simple, a dedicated button at the top of the menu lets you toggle between the two screens instantly.

With support for corporate as well as personal email, two customizeable home screens, high speed data connectivity via 3G, HSDPA and WLAN networks, a 3.2 megapixel camera, A-GPS and Nokia Maps for navigation, a full HTML web browser with Flash support, and a digital audio and video player, the Nokia E71 is the only device you’ll need to carry whether at work or at play.

Sony Ericsson TM506 now available from T-Mobile

T-Mobile USA announced that the Sony Ericsson TM506 is now available for purchase for US$79.99 after a $50 rebate when purchased with a 2 year service agreement. The TM506 is the first Sony Ericsson mobile phone to be offered by T-Mobile USA in quite some time, and is also the first ever HSDPA 3G phone that T-Mobile has offered.

T-Mobile is currently in the process of rolling out its 3G network. New York was the first city to see the benefits of the high-speed access, back in May, and Las Vegas users got the green light early last month. The company intends to add at least 20 additional markets to the 3G network before the end of the year.

T-Mobile MDA Vario III

I guess I am quite a fan when it comes to HTC handheld devices. I think HTC has done more than any other company to promote its smartphones and they are truly excellent products. Recently HTC launched the P4550 Kaiser handset and now known as the TyTN II. T-Mobile MDA Vario III took everything that was good from the TyTN and it is much better. But now I have the first operator branded HTC TyTN II, in the form of the T-Mobile MDA III, and I have a feeling that this could well be the best smartphone option out there.

The great thing about the Vario III is that the changes are subtle though there is significant improvements. Basically, nothing has been done to spoil the recipe of the previous model, but a great deal has been done to improve it. First up, it's ever so slightly slimmer than the TyTN, or the Vario II - not enough to make a massive difference in your pocket, but it is noticeable when the two devices are placed next to each other. Actual measurements are 110 x 58 x 18mm (LxWxD). That said, the Vario III is heavier than the older version, weighing in at 191g compared to 178g.

The whole front fascia of the Vario III is finished in brushed silver, while the back matches this. The central portion of the device is black, creating a sleek and stylish contrast to the design. The 2.8in 240 x 320 is no different from the old model, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Yes, a higher resolution would make browsing standard web pages more convenient, but that's far from the main duty of a smartphone. What you have got is a clear, bright and vivid screen, making it very easy to navigate through the Windows Mobile 6 menus.

Below the screen there's a plethora of buttons to play with. There are two obligatory soft buttons, along with the End and Call buttons. Apart from those button, it also features OK button, Windows button, a Web ‘n' Walk shortcut for T-Mobile's mobile data service and a shortcut messaging services

iPhone Jailbreak pawned by New MacBook and MacBook Pro

State-of-the-art features and stylish appearances blend together to push the new MacBook Pro and MacBook laptops to a whole next level. But in this post we are not going to talk about all mundane features that people largely in the blogosphere talk about, rather we would like to highlight a likely-never-heard feature but have huge impact on a portion of Apple users.

We talk about the great battle between Apple and iPhone hackers. The latest laptop lineup apparently turn the table into Apple's advantage as Apple manages to put a complete halt on iPhone hackers and the "jailbreak community" activities. That’s right, Apple has tweaked the MacBook and MacBook Pro to thwart jailbreaking efforts using the popular Pwnage Tool solution.

It is reported that iPhone and iPhone 3G users with the new all-aluminum MacBooka and MacBook Pro laptops didn't manage to jailbreak their iPhones in DFU restore mode. As the iPhone community know, both Quickpwn and PwnageTool require the iPhone need to be detected in DFU restore mode by the computer in order to perform the jailbreak procedure. In essence, the new laptops are effectively killing the jailbreak option for many Mac users.

Solution? No real solution for the latest Apple's step-up but you can always go finding an older Apple laptop or find a Windows machine to jailbreak the iPhone.

Samsung T*Omnia announced in Korea with Better screen and mobile TV included

Previously we just posted the new enhanced Samsung Omnia that will hit the Japanese market soon. Samsung yesterday announced the launch of the Korean version of “Samsung OMNIA” known as T*OMNIA. Samsung T*Omnia will be available in the middle of November, exclusively brought by SK telecom.

How does this version compared with the original Samsung Omnia? This device features few enhancements like 3.3″ WVGA touch screen with 480 × 800 resolution and more importantly equipped with Satellite DMB function which allows Korean users to enjoy Mobile TV. There will be 2 different version of the Samsung T*Omnia smartphone; SCH-M495 with 16GB internal memory and SCH-M490 with 4GB internal memory.

T*OMNIA also comes with a 5 megapixel CMOS camera with image stabilizer and auto-focus (AF), GPS features and Wi-Fi connection. It also offers an enhanced multimedia experience with high speed HSDPA networks. Users will alway be connected to a range of peripherals, thanks to Bluetooth® 2.0 and USB 2.0.

Enhanced Samsung Omnia making its way to the Japenese Market

Autostart Mobile Phones Applications

You are probably more inclined to auto start your mobile application if you have to manually start applications on your mobile phones every time after you powering it on like music players or voice recorder. That way you can speed up the loading time and reduce time it takes to get around the control of you mobile phone.

Powerboot is a useful application that you might have been dreaming of for so long. This little app is a very versatile one because it is capable of fitting in wide range of mobile phones which include lots of Nokia mobile phones like N95 or N96, many Samsung and a few other mobile phone brands on the list.

The application is analogous the Windows start-up folder where mobile phone owner will be able to select applications that need to be auto started. All you need to after that is to enables Powerboot. That is it, your selected applications should be automatically started when the phone is turned back on.

There are several options offered by Powerboot on how to add application to the start up. You can either pick a running application, an application from all installed applications or a Java application with 2 modes to consider: Quick Mode and Safe Mode. Basically Quick Mode will start the applications right away while Safe Mode displays a query before auto starting them.

Another Samsung’s Dual Sim Mobile Phone

Dual Sim handset is not common in Europe. In fact, there are only 3 mobile phones that are currently available in Europe - two of those are from Samsung. Today, Samsung have added another Dual Sim handset, the S9502, to its portfolio. It might look like some other cheap plastic mobile phones but surprisingly, the price tag is approximately $1000 and most of the cost is due to the material used to construct it.

The luxury Samsung S9502 is made up of a rhodium-plated body and effectively it will be resistant to many kinds of potential damages. It is learnt that it will be available in Russia first, but, no official details (price, debut date etc) have been confirmed by Samsung.
