Toshiba Rolls Out iPhone Killer The TG01

The iPhone debut back in 2007 and its unstoppable domination over touchscreen smart phone market, have ever since created the emergence of many similar mobile phones. They claimed to be the ones that could compete with the iPhone. Recently, Toshiba has announced their own smart phone, the TG01 which is targeted to compete with the iPhone 3G. This device has a large 4.1 inches screen with the resolution of 800 X 480 pixel. The screen itself uses Toshiba’s HDTV technology for back light control and gamma correction.

The TG01 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 OS and has a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. This device is slimmer than the HTC Touch and the iPhone with its only 9.9 mm thick body. It takes the advantage of Toshiba’s own 3D user interface, meant for one hand use. It responds to shaking and gestures as well. Unlike iPhone, it is equipped with a virtual trackpad which allows you browsing websites effortlessly.

With the presence of Snapdragon 1GHz CPU as the heart and brain of the TG01, along with the dynamic speed control, it is able to throttle back during low usage. This device is said to be able to run at the fullest extend and can last for one whole day. This device also comes with other standard features like Internal GPS with A-GPS, a 3.2 MP camera, EDGE/GPRS, 3G with HSDPA support. Apart from that it is equipped with Bluetooth 2.0, Wifi and supports Divx video playback. As usual, the IE mobile 6 browser that comes with it supports flash technology. The TG01 comes with inbuilt 512 MB memory which can easily be extended to 32GB with microSD card.

As this articles is written, the pricing details has not yet been announced and will only be available in Europe in several months' time. It will be available in 2 colors; black and white.
