A Glance at the First Google G1 Phone

Yesterday was an important day for Google as it officially announced the debut of its first ever Google G1 Phone powered by open source mobile operating system, Android. This device is expected to hit the US market on October 22nd with the price tag of $179 (bound by a 2-year contract), before making its way to the UK in November and soon expands to the European market by early of 2009.

There are mixed up feelings to those who have the opportunity to test the smartphone. While there are lot of exciting things being mentioned like the sleekness of the G1 phone which is definitely an attractive element for consumers, there are few minor drawbacks that can be seen like scrolling and zooming isn’t as smooth as what you might expect. Apart from there is no headphone jack included with no iTunes support.

Having said that, Gmail fans will be happy to know that there would be extensive support in Android for Gmail which allow users to find their messages on the fly and there will be “integrated online presence with Google Talk.” Google Maps - Street View will be available too!

The question is whether G1 will really beat the iPhone?
