8MP Camera Samsung Pixon is Official

The 8 Mega Pixel (MP) handsets seem to be the new standard for most mobile phone makers with LG officially announced the KC-910, its successor to Viewty. This new brand phone features an 8 MP camera with of course, advanced photographic capabilities such as 120 fps video recording, manual focus, digital image stabilizer and blink detection.

Recently Samsung also officially announced their new device namely Samsung Pixon. The Samsung Pixon also features an 8 mega pixel camera with lot of similar features as the LG handset. Here are some of the features

a large touchscreen
advanced image filters
assisted GPS with GEO tagging
120 fps video capture for slow motion effects
7.2 Mbps HSDPA
5.1 virtual surround capture support

The race is now shifting on getting High Definition (HD) on board after a full season of the Open Source mobile operating systems. Divx has been working around the clock to produce chips in order to realize this state-of-the-art feature and is expected to be in the market by next year.

While waiting for both products to be released on the market this October, the question remains whether they could be potentially a threat to the iPhone or the Google HTC G1.
